The Greener and Fairer policy of the Social Democrats (Ireland) is a response to the global climate crisis and threats to the environment, standards of living and human existence. It aims to treat climate change and the environment as priority issues with a vision for sustainable communities both socially and environmentally. The objectives for a Greener and Fairer Ireland include a range of initiatives such as phasing out fossil fuels, regulating waste management systems and supporting recycling initiatives, reducing demand and supply of single-use plastics; nation-wide public transport programmes, including green transport; and protecting biodiversity with a move away from monoculture and intensive farming.
