Articles 15 – 20 of the Frelimo Party statutes approved at the 11th Frelimo Congress in 2017 provide details of disciplinary sanctions. Article 15 refers to the disciplinary sanctions that party members will face if they violate the Party statutes or the Programme, do not comply with decisions, abuse their functions or who prejudice the Party’s status. Article 16 outlines the different types of disciplinary sanctions depending on the severity of the offence, and includes warnings, suspension of voting rights or membership, or expulsion. Articles 17 and 18 prescribe who may impose sanctions within the party and the disciplinary procedures that must be followed. Articles 19 and 20 address the process of appealing against a sanction and prescription of the right to initiate disciplinary proceedings.
