Departure centres for rejected asylum seekers
- New departure centre for families with children. A new Government will respect the fundamental principles of the asylum system and therefore respect the fact that asylum seekers who have received a final rejection to their application for asylum must return home. However, this does not change the fact that children are blameless in the situation they find themselves in. Therefore, the current conditions for children should be improved in a way that supports the children in having an everyday life that is as normal as possible. A new Government believes that within that context it will be possible to find a more appropriate location for a departure centre for children with families than Departure Centre Sjælsmark (Udrejsecenter Sjælsmark). The new departure centre must be set up based on the recommendations of the Red Cross and the Ombudsman’s report concerning the conditions at Sjælsmark.
